Day 1 Depart Adelaide 8.30am - Travel to Melrose Visit the Clare Valley wine region (visit a winery if desired) Take a walk in the Wirrabara Forest walking trail. Travel a 4wd trail over the Southern Flinders for great Views of the ranges & Spencer Gulf. Overnight at the Melrose Holiday Units. Day 2 Spend day walking - climb Mt. Remarkable in the National Park Saturday (950m high) 5 hrs return, stay overnight in Melrose. Day 3 Travel to Glendambo a desert Oasis- on the way walk down into Alligator Gorge in the Mt. Remarkable National Park (Approx. 1 hr). Also view Pt. Augusta & Woomera on the way there. Stay overnight at the Glendambo Motel. Day 4 Arrive in Coober Pedy late morning visit "Old Timers Mine" and other attractions View the "Breakaways" for a spectacular sunset (Weather permitting). Stay overnight at the Underground Motel. . Day 5 Spend a few more hours exploring or take the half day tour (recommended) and then head to William Creek on the "Oodnadatta Track". Stay overnight at the William Creek Hotel or cabins. Day 6 Travel down the "Track" visiting the Ghan railway historic sites and natural phenomena inc. the "Mound Springs" & Ochre pits. Stay overnight at the Leigh Creek Tavern Motel . Day 7 Travel into the Flinders Ranges, visiting Aroona Sanctuary & Beltana to experience some Australia history. Stay overnight at the Blinman Hotel/Motel . Day 8 Head to Wilpena Pound visiting Brachina Gorge, Aroona Friday Valley (Hans Heysen Country) and Bunyeroo Gorge & Scenic drive. Stay overnight at the Wilpena Resort. Day 9 Spend day walking the Wilpena area - great walking trails. Stay overnight at theWilpena Resort . Day 10 Travel to Arkaroola Village Wilderness Sanctuary Sunday Walk through Balcanoona & Weetoolla gorges to Grindells hut in the Gammon Ranges Nat. Park. Meet Leisuretime at the hut & continue on to Arkaroola. Stay overnight at Arkaroola. Day 11 Take the "Ridge Top" 4wd tour in the morning and the option of walking in the afternoon or visiting some scenic water holes. Day 12 Spend day walking, stay overnight at Arkaroola. Day 13 Travel South to Melrose - walking to Arkaroo Rock (2hrs) & Yourambulla Cave (1hr) both Aboriginal Art sites. Stay overnight at Melrose Holiday Units. Day 14 Travel back to Adelaide via Jamestown visit Bundaleer Forest for a short walk, Burra a once busy copper mining centre through Gawler & Elizabeth. |
