| Day 1 Travel North
through the Clare Valley wine growing region - divert along the scenic
Skilly Rd and off road into the Southern Flinders for beautiful panoramas
of the Spencer Gulf & Flinders Ranges - includes a short walk to a historic
shepherds hut circa 1850. Stay in a heritage B & B in Melrose (subject
to availablity) the first town in the Flinders Ranges.
Day 2 Head north into the Outback through vast sheep stations to Coober Pedy stop off for a look at the display in Woomera the once secret rocket launching town. Visit the Breakaways for a stunning sunset (weather permitting) the mars like landscape used for films like Mad Max & Pitch Black Sleep underground tonight. Day 3 Explore Coober Pedy - visit the “Old Timers Mine” buy an opal! Then head east through the famous “Dog Fence” to cattle country and past Anna Creek the largest cattle station in the world (the size of Belgium) before our overnight stay at William Creek (cabins or hotel depending on availability) have a drink in a real 'Outback Pub' see a photo . (A visit to Lake Eyre North can be arranged if we spend less time in Coober Pedy.) Day 4 An early a.m. flight over Lake Eyre is available (must be booked prior to tour departing) we will book (but extra cost of approx. $115pp) see the Wrights Air Site for details and then follow the Oodnadatta Track south to Marree a once busy railway town when the “Old Gahn” train operated. We will visit historic sites and Mound springs on the way as we follow the Gahn railway and Overland Telegraph routes. Passing Lake Eyre South. Stay Overnight at Marree in historic railway cottages. Day 5 Travel south past the massive Leigh Creek coal field to the Flinders Ranges visit Brachina Gorge, Aroona Valley and Bunyeroo Scenic drive. Stay at the Wilpena Pound Resort. Day 6 Return
to Adelaide via the Moralana scenic drive and Buckaringa, Warrens Gorges,
Pitchi Richi Pass and Highway One, with a brief stop at Pt.Germein which
has the longest jetty in Australia.
Price includes National Park & Old Timers Mine entrance. If trip visits Lake Eyre an extra cost of $20.00pp will apply for fuel cost etc. Some accommodation will have shared facilities. This trip does include some walking
but is suitable for any person of reasonable health and fitness.
