Day 1 Travel from Adelaide to Melrose through the Clare Valley, Pt. Germien and a 4wd track over the Southern Flinders to a secluded shepherds hut circa 1850. Visit Alligator Gorge or the Melrose National Trust museum overnight stay at heritage Bed & Breakfast (subject to availablity). Day 2 Travel deeper into the Flinders Ranges to the great Australia “Outback”. See Gorges - Fossils - Aboriginal Art sites. Stay at the historic Blinman Hotel at the “Top of the Flinders”. Day 3 Travel to the Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctury via Glass Gorge, Beltana, Aroona Dam Sanctuary and Italowie Gorge stay overnight in the Flinders. Day 4 Do the famous “Ridge Top Tour” in the morning and the Echo Camp Back track in the afternoon. Both true 4WD adventures with spectacular mountain scenery and secluded waterholes. Day 5 Travel to Wilpena Pound - visit Grindels Hut in the Gammon Range National Park,Wearing and Chambers Gorges, Stokes Hill and Hucks Lookout on the way. Day 6 Return to Adelaide by the eastern route via Peterbourgh and historic Burra. Optional scenic flight over Wilpena Pound recomended before departure (extra cost approx $60pp). Five days if departing from Melrose. |
